Renewables

Renewable energy continues to play a major role in the transition to a low carbon future. With the advancement of technology, coupled with a significant reduction in build costs, there has never been a better time for wind, solar and geothermal energy.

At Zetland Group we support our existing fossil fuel clients as they transition to low carbon energy technologies and support our renewable energy clients in their delivery of new renewable energy development. We offer a range of services, including feasibility studies, grid connection assessments and consenting services. We work collaboratively with grid connection specialists, ‘off the gird’ energy system specialists and geothermal energy specialists to deliver a sustainable development.

Energy Storage

Battery storage is a well developed and reliable technology, available at scale and capable of meeting shortfalls in electricity demand at short notice. Lithium ion battery storage is at the forefront of current battery technology. Storage is an essential component to ensure the viability of renewable energy.

At Zetland Group we work closely with our clients to develop a consenting strategy that delivers lithium ion battery storage on time, utilising existing grid connections where available coupled with renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar.

Short and medium duration storage systems will play a significant role as we transition to a low carbon future. When coupled with renewable energy sources, it has the potential to transform intermittent energy into firm energy.

Storage technology is advancing at pace, with many projects moving from the design phase to proof of concept. Whilst the lithium ion battery is front and centre of today’s battery industry, there are many more concepts on the horizon which may overcome the finite resource that is lithium.

We work closely with the designers to ensure their concepts are feasible in the context of regulatory compliance and buildability. We call upon our long-term and trusted relationships we have with the regulators to ensure that the regulatory framework does not become a barrier to the development of these new technologies.

Hydrogen

Hydrogen will play a significant role as we transition to a low carbon future, from grey to blue hydrogen derived from fossil fuels with CCS to green hydrogen derived from electrolysis using renewable energy sources.

At Zetland Group we support the advancement in hydrogen production, consenting standalone small scale steam methane reformation units, through to CCS and large-scale renewable electrolysis and underground storage development.

Underground Storage

The storage of gas in suitable underground formations has a significant role to play in the generation mix, be it natural gas for security of supply, carbon dioxide from the production of blue hydrogen or the storage of hydrogen.

Here at Zetland Group we understand the subsurface environment. We have extensive knowledge of the design and construction of gas storage facilities, both depleted reservoir and solution mined caverns. Our knowledge of the consenting process and regulatory framework associated with underground gas storage makes us an ideal partner in your development.
